ABSTRACT
| Premature babies are deficient in macro and micronutrients at birth. The effect of selenium, an essential factor for the growth and function of vital organs, must be taken into account as much as other nutrients. The optimal dose and length of selenium supplementation have not yet been fully established, as these may vary according to age group and selenium intake in exclusively breastfed children. The clinical situation of infants affected by conditions that may increase oxidative stress and thus increase selenium requirements should be taken into account. Nutritional assessment of Selenium status in the body should be performed to analyze biochemical indicators and clinical signs, especially in premature newborns who are not breastfed. |
